"Astro Boy" (Tetsuwan Atomu, known as Mighty Atom in Japan) is a Japanese science fiction manga by Osamu Tezuka, as well as the title of the television anime, special effects television program based on it, and the fictional robot protagonist within the work. He was created to resemble "Tobio Tenma," the son of a doctor who died in a traffic accident. Atom was a character in "Ambassador Atom," which was serialized from April 1951 to March 1952.
