James Brown (born James Joseph Brown, Jr., May 3, 1933 – December 25, 2006) was an American soul singer, songwriter, arranger, music producer, record label owner, and social activist. He had musical qualities in funk, blues, gospel music, R&B, and soul, and enjoyed widespread popularity among African Americans for a long time. As mentioned above, he is said to have been born in 1933, but there is also a theory that he was actually born in 1928.
