LUNA SEA was formed in 1989 by RYUICHI (Vocals), SUGIZO (Guitar/Violin), INORAN (Guitar), J (Bass), and Shinya (Drums). Originating in Machida Playhouse, they initially started their activities under the name "LUNACY." With their refined sensibility and overwhelming expressive power, they quickly garnered attention within the scene. In 1992, they made their major debut with the album "IMAGE." Subsequently released singles and albums dominated the charts one after another. They expanded their stage to the Nippon Budokan, Tokyo Dome, and nationwide arena tours, marking a new era in the Japanese rock scene. With a sound that goes back and forth between stillness and motion to the extreme, a worldview that adheres to aesthetics, and live performances that shake the soul, they established themselves as a unique presence. In November 2000, they declared their "end." On December 26th and 27th of the same year, they ceased activities after a performance at Tokyo Dome. The impact left a deep impression on the scene. On December 24, 2007, a Christmas Eve under a full moon, they held a one-night revival performance at Tokyo Dome titled "GOD BLESS YOU ~One Night Déjàvu~." Then, in 2010, they declared "REBOOT." They embarked on a world tour including 3 days at Tokyo Dome, achieving a full-scale restart. Since then, they have continued to evolve without stopping, including releasing original albums and holding their own festival "LUNATIC FEST." In 2024, they celebrated their 35th anniversary with their largest-ever nationwide hall tour, "ERA TO ERA." They recreated the six albums from before their hiatus, confronting their own history head-on. In 2025, as the grand finale of their 35th-anniversary tour, they held a co-headlining live show with their longtime friends GLAY, titled "Millennium Eve 2025," for the first time in about 25 years. The following day, they held "LUNATIC TOKYO 2025 -Kurofuku Gentei GIG- (Black Outfit Limited Gig)" at the Tokyo Dome. While traversing through many eras, they once again etched a new legend in the sacred ground. LUNA SEA continues to sound an unending story even now.
