-真天地開闢集団-ジグザグ
The night I watched "Zigzag's Grand Misogi on New Year's Eve!" at Tokyo Garden Theater felt like being gently enveloped in the "worldview" of the band -Shin Tenchi Kaibyaku Shudan- Zigzag. The show opened with the brilliant "Appare Chindouchuu," followed by exhilarating songs like "JAPPARAPAN ~Japanese Party~" and "Sanzen Sekai," the new song "P0WER -Akuryo Taisan-" and the staples "Fukushuu wa Seigi," "Kichune no Yomeiri," and even the unexpected "Kao ga Muri." The old and new songs were beautifully arranged, and the powerful rock sound and ritualistic atmosphere were impressively balanced. Above all, the sound was fantastic. In addition to the venue's existing equipment, a significant number of speakers seemed to have been added. In the music industry, where visual effects tend to be emphasized, I could really feel their commitment to sound creation. What I've felt through past performances, such as previous tours and video works, is that Zigzag's live shows are not just a place for performance, but a time for "misogi" (purification) that involves each and every audience member as a worshiper, cleansing their hearts. The dramatic staging that colors the entire stage is filled with both euphoria and overwhelming intensity, and that atmosphere was certainly alive in this New Year's Eve performance. Because of the concept of "New Year's Eve Misogi," the venue felt filled with a special and warm atmosphere, full of "gratitude for 2024" and "hope for the new year." Even though it wasn't a countdown performance, the fact that a countdown was naturally permitted felt like it was due to the existence of Zigzag and the deep generosity of Misasama (their vocalist). Misasama's unique vocals and strong sense of responsibility as a frontman, Kagemaru's overwhelming drumming, and Tatsuya's groove, which combines delicacy and power, create a unique atmosphere. At those moments, Kanno's sharp and beautiful guitar riffs pierced through the sound, and the audience shared the lyrics together, creating a deep sense of unity that went beyond a simple rock concert. It felt like the experiences from their 47-prefecture tour and the "misogi" they had performed in various locations were really brought to life on this stage. As the show approached its climax, the songs and staging became even more intense, and in the final moments, the entire venue became like one large place of prayer. The surprise "Appare Chindouchuu" after "Nighty night!" caused a happy stir in the audience. This night, where the "misogi" as a ritual to cleanse the heart and take a new step forward—different from a New Year's Eve countdown—was brilliantly embodied as a live performance by -Shin Tenchi Kaibyaku Shudan- Zigzag, will surely remain in the memories of many worshipers and be passed down for years to come.
