Shuya Okino (KYOTO JAZZ MASSIVE) is a DJ/Producer/Composer/Writer/and the world's only record selection critic. He is also the founder of the Tokyo Crossover/Jazz Festival. As the producer of The Room (Shibuya), he has attracted 800,000 visitors over 23 years since its opening. His release "ECLIPSE" under the KYOTO JAZZ MASSIVE moniker became the first release by a Japanese artist to reach No. 1 on the UK's BBC Radio ZUBB chart for three consecutive weeks. He has been invited to 140 cities in 40 countries worldwide as a DJ/artist, and has been featured on CNN, BILLBOARD, and other international media outlets, making him one of the few Japanese musicians who can truly meet global standards. As a pioneer of "sound branding," which transforms the value of space through music, he has also designed music for cinemas, hotels, banks, airports, and restaurants. In 2005, he published the world's first record selection guidebook, "DJ Senkyokujutsu" (Rittor Music), gaining attention as a writer. In July 2011, he released his second solo album, "DESTINY," which reached No. 1 on the iTunes dance chart and No. 3 on the overall chart. In 2015, he published his autobiography, "Shokugyo, DJ, 25-nen" (Occupation: DJ, 25 Years). In the same year, he formed a new group, Kyoto Jazz Sextet, and released the album "Mission" from Blue Note. Currently, he is the program navigator for InterFM's "JAZZ ain't Jazz" (every Wednesday at 22:00). He is also the resident DJ for the monthly party "Tokyo Jazz Meeting" at his home base, The Room.
