TERRY LINEN
The artist name Terry Linen is said to be inspired by Garnett Silk, his idol, with 'Linen' chosen to echo Silk's name. Born in St. Elizabeth, the second largest parish in Jamaica, also the birthplace of artists like Fanton Mojah, Terry Linen was raised by his grandparents after being separated from his father at a young age. He later moved to Mandeville to live with his mother. There, he met Garnett Silk, Tony Rebel, and Panther (MC of Black Kat, a famous soundman), laying the foundation for his career. After joining a local sound crew, he met Anthony Red Rose (*1), a famous singer and owner/producer of the Raggedy Joe label, in 1993. He then released his second single, "Rainbow Never Touched The Ground." In 1994, the accidental death of his friend Garnett Silk (*2) led him to become disillusioned with the state of Jamaica and the music business, and he decided to leave the industry. However, unable to forget his love for reggae and singing, he reaffirmed his path and spent five years regaining his passion, releasing "Your Love Is My Love" from Raggedy Joe in 1999, which became a huge hit. He continued to release major hits such as "Call On A Friend" and "That's The Way It Is," gaining even more support in the scene. In 2001, he released his first album, "Terry Linen." This album has achieved a firm position among singer albums as a long-selling work that continues to sell. Since then, although the number of releases has been small, he has consistently released good songs that remain in the heart, at a rate of about one or two songs per year. *1: A singer active since the 80s, with hit songs including "Tempo," "Fat Thing," and "Ganja Man." *2: Died in a fire caused by the explosion of a gas cylinder (in Jamaica, gas is supplied in fixed cylinders). However, there are various rumors surrounding the accident, including stories that someone detonated the cylinder. ▼Characteristics of TERRY LINEN▼ His slightly husky but clear high-pitched voice, reminiscent of the late Garnett Silk, and his expressive singing give him an exquisite ability to brilliantly and newly transform hit songs from genres like R&B into reggae. He is not the type to churn out songs, but rather takes his time to create them. ▼Recent Developments of TERRY LINEN▼ On April 23, 2008, he released his long-awaited second album, "Give Thanks And Praise," seven years after his first. From that album, he has released three titles on 7-inch singles.
