Since their formation in 1992, Osaka Monaurail has been consistently dedicated to "reviving the funk sound of '68-'72 in the modern era," and has remained at the forefront of the scene. Currently an 8-member band, they aim to be a group that sincerely engages with soul/funk and the appeal of the 1960s and 70s. They have also been involved in the independent distribution of the films 'Coffy' and 'Super Fly', as well as the invitation and album production of funk diva Marva Whitney. Since around 2006, they have been actively performing overseas, releasing European editions of their albums. They have performed at major festivals in various countries, including the North Sea Jazz Festival (Netherlands) and the Montreal International Jazz Festival (Canada). They have performed over 200 concerts in 22 countries to date. In 2016, they held their annual European tour in May. Currently, they are producing a full album for Martha High, a female singer who served as James Brown's backing chorus for 32 years.
